How do I turn my really curly hair into loose beach waves?

I have medium length, choppy layered hair that's extremely curly if I don't straighten it. I'm thinking about growing it out and getting really loose beachy waves (sorta like nicole richie's). So how do I make my curly hair wavy, preferrably without heat?

If your hair is really curly then i'd say brush it through when you get out the shower because then the curls will be brushed out but because it's still wet it should dry wavy (you may need to brush every now and gaian as it drys).
