How can you manage out of control curly hair?

I cant wear my hair down because once it dries, it looks like a huge afro no matter how much product I put in it. The only thing I can do is use a flat iron to straighten it but it takes FOREVER. ...............WHITE GIRL WITH A FRO NEEDS SOME HELP!How can you manage out of control curly hair?
You don't say how long your hair is and whether it's small ';kinky'; curls or all over the place; but it sounds like you have a similar problem to my mom, so I called and asked her routine.

1) Avoid brushing it during the day. Only brush right before getting in the shower.

2) Use a curl defining shampoo and conditioner.(She uses Thermasilk.)

3) Don't leave the towel on your head for longer than five minutes, just long enough to absorb the worst of the dripping.

The next two steps may need to be altered depending on your hair length, as mom's is to the middle of her shoulder blades.

4) Rub a nickel-size drop of Care Free Curl (found among the black hair care products) lightly between palms and finger comb through hair.

5) Follow that up with a small amount of Tresemm茅 Curl Care extra hold defining gel.

6) Dry hair upside down on highest setting, scrunching as you go.

7) When hair is almost completely dry, spray all over with Thermasilk flexible hold.

8) Finish drying hair on the hot/low setting, continue scrunching.

9) When hair is throughly dry, spray again and dry the hairspray. (This step can be skipped if your hair is ';kinky'; as opposed to all over the place curls.)

10) Flip hair back over and use fingers to carefully arrange however it normally hangs (please note, do not finger COMB), followed by one more light spray and scrunch.

(If this doesn't help, mom also suggested that you post a pic so that we might all have a clearer idea of what you're working with, as someone else might have a better solution.)How can you manage out of control curly hair?

you have exactly the same kind of hair as me. i think its sad that somebody suggested that a white girl uses a black hair product. if big hair ever comes back in, we are the style setters, haha :)

First. I'd go to a salon for a consultation. Ask about the pros and cons of permanent straightening. Like how much, how long it'll last, etc. I don't think I'd try OTC PRODUCTS without a professional's advice.
you should get layers in your hair and go to a hairdresser that will really thin out your hair. dont worry if your hairs naturally thick itll all grow back, trust me it dusnt take long, and youll need to get it thinned otu regualry

but this will make it a lot easier to straighten and manage
go to a permanent ironing or else use a good branded hair conditioner..... it helps ur hais to stay as you say or comb.....

try and let me know the result....
If you use a higher quality flat iron like a sedu or chi, it should cut your straightening time in half. It would be well worth the investment. Otherwise, go to a salon and ask what they would suggest. They probably would recommend chemical straightening. Also, rinse hair in cold water and make sure you don't steam up the bathroom when you shower. Steam=Poofy hair
You can try going to a hair saloon and ask for their advise. And perhaps try a permanent rebonding to straighten your hair out ? =)
