What good products are out there to tame extremely thick, wavy/curly hair?

I need some help. My hair is EXTREMELY thick, I mean hair bands break on my hair all the time, and my hair is wavy/curly. Are there any products out there that have served you well in making your hair more smooth and manageable? I've only found one amazing product - KMS Flat Out balm - but I can't afford it. Or any tips you use when styling your hair would be appreciated. ThanksWhat good products are out there to tame extremely thick, wavy/curly hair?
Here are some basic tips for curly hair that you might find helpful:

*Try to find a stylist who knows how to work with curly hair. You can find ratings by region here: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlsalons

*Don't shampoo every day.

*Comb conditioner through hair in the shower.

*Never use a brush on dry hair, only untangle when the hair is wet.

*Apply styling products to dripping wet hair. Scrunch or twirl hair to achieve desired shape.

*Use styling products suited for your hair type. Don鈥檛 know yours? http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types

*Avoid terrycloth towels; use microfiber or t-shirts instead.

*Air dry or use a diffuser with your blowdryer.

*Don't touch (or brush!) your hair while it鈥檚 drying

For specific products for your hair type you鈥檒l want to explore the forums at:

There you can find others with the same hair type and try out some of their favorite products.

If you want to run out and pick something up locally, I recommend trying LA Looks or Herbal essences gels (drugstore); Biotera gel and cream (Sally's Beauty Supply); Suave Naturals/vo5 conditioners (really cheap); Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Condish (semi-cheap but super moisturizing; found at organics/specialty stores); red Cream of Nature shampoo (drugstore again); and L'oreal out of bed weightless texturizer (black tub, use under gel). These are all good things to try, and be sure to tinker around with amounts and how you use any products.

Lastly, it has made my hair so much better since I started the curly girl method! I used to almost never wear it down (it was a frizz/poof ball), but now I have pretty, shiny curls. ~:) It鈥檚 pretty radical鈥攏o sulfates (shampoo) or silicones鈥攂ut it鈥檚 so great for curly hair. Give it a shot and check it out:

For you and for everyone that has naturally curly hair should use John Frieda's Frizz ease curl reviver corrective styling mousse, you can buy it from most drug stores and supermarkets. It is quite cheap as well. All you do is while your hair is wet apply some mousse then allow hair to dry then if you ever need to apply more you can. And it does not make your hair look or feel greasy.

Hope I have helped!
Honey, we are both in the same boat. I, too have extremely thick and wavy hair. I have experimented on many products and here is what I've found to work:

Loreal Vive Pro shampoo and conditioner (for dry hair, it smoothes well)

Frizz Ease (John Freida) frizz serum (miraculous!)

Garnier fructis smoothing milk/leave in conditioner

Pantene curl/wave defining gel

Any of these will work!! Glad to help! Peace~H :)

I love Aussie shampoo %26amp; conditioner, the one that helps frizz. That's really good and so is there 3 minute miracle which makes hair nice and smooth and shiny D

John Frieda frizz ease is also amazing and you put it inyour hair whilst wet %26amp; it's total frizz free and silky.

If none of these work, go to your hairdresser and get them to cut your hair and thin it out. You could also consider having it relaxed or getting a pair of GHDS.

i highly recommend Japanese hair straightening. i have very thick hair and it got much more manageable after the straightening. but no matter what- make sure you are going to a professional who knows what they are doing! make sure to meet with other people that got it done with him/ her/ the salon. getting referrals for this will be your best bet.

Paul Mitchell's Styling Foam(red themed) it is ';the tamer of the curly beast';. I use it and my hair can't be chemically straightened lol
I have to same type of hair and I use garnier frutis mousse and gel. I think it works well.
try taming moose
