How do you use mousse to keep curly hair from frizzing and weighing down?

I would shower and put mousse in my hair, but I have to wake up really early in the morning. Unless you can sleep with mousse in your hair.... anyway do you just put mousse on your fingers and run it through your hair? I don't want it to look hard. How do you use mousse to keep curly hair from frizzing and weighing down?
Yeah, I like gel a lot better too. I like to smooth it onto to a section and then scrunch with my fingers. Then I shape my curls by twisting and twirling a few around my finger. My favorite gel is Herbal Essences Body Envy, but Set Me Up isn't bad either. The amount you use depends on how long your hair is and how thick.

I also like to use a leave underneath to avoid too much crunch from the gel. A good one is giovanni direct leave in. If you're tring to sleep on wet hair, I recommend trying plopping:

From my experience, Mousse actually messes up your hair. Why don't you try using gel. Since you don't want your hair to look hard, just use a little bit. Rub your hands together and run it through your hair.
