What are some good ways to style my poofy curly hair?

Okay, i have about shoulder-length super curly hair that is so poofy sometimes i don't know what to do with it. i want to grow it out and then possibly get long layers, but i'm scared it will screw up. i want to do something with it because i'm so tired of it being like it's been all my life. help! What are some good ways to style my poofy curly hair?
Get a chemical relaxer from a SALON. Doing it at home has many risks, such as hair breakage + loss. Many ethnic women and men get them including myself. It doesn't sting, hurt, or burn. It costs anywhere from $50-$80. Look up a local hair salon and look at their website, it may take awhile, but I'm sure you'll find one that does chemical relaxers.

For hair like ours straightening takes WAY TOO LONG.What are some good ways to style my poofy curly hair?
okay i'm a hair stylist, and i personally love when people ask questions about hair, especially curly. i would recommend getting layers and side bangs with a side part, trust me it will look amazing. keep it at shoulder length and go to your local walgreens or rite aid and find a de-frizz or de-puff spray, trust me they work. if you ever feel like you want to have your hair straight, try the instyler! or you can try a chi straightener! they both work amazingly, the chi is more straight and the instyler has more volume, but always remember to use the heat protection spray! for shampoo and conditioner i would find a 'for curly hair' shampoo and condition, i would suggest aveda or biolage. Hope this helps!
You can easily style it to get smooth, defined curls. Only shampoo it 3 times a week and condition the rest of the time. When you get out of the shower, put a big glob of Aussie catch the wave mousse/leave in conditioner and scrunch. Either let it air dry, or dry with a diffuser. Once dry use some shine serum and Tresseme hairspray to hold. That's what I do with my out of control wavy hair, and it looks great.
For the latest modern, great looking hairstyles, either velcro or plastic rollers work the best. Also, its better for your hair, the style lasts longer and you can style it in different ways. This yahoo group has tons of pictures of the latest hairstyles. It takes a little patience because there are so many pictures to view. It might be of help. The link to click on is below.

Go to a African American beautician. She knows. We all have ';poofy'; or ';curly'; hair. Yours won't be a problem to straighten or style. You could just buy a flat iron and flat iron it out, then style it or just wear it like that.
Get any good brand straightner ... I have GHD'S and you can curly your hair and straighten it with them so im happy.... however don't use straightners everyday %26amp; if you do use heat protection because you could damage your hair... alwaqys use heat protection

or just get a new hair style
